Community consultation is currently underway for future upgrades to the Gateway Motorway and Bruce Highway.
The upgrades include the Gateway Motorway between Bracken Ridge and Pine River, and the Bruce Highway just north of Dohles Rocks Road, including the Dohles Rocks Road north-facing ramps.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development, Michael McCormack, said planning for these major upgrades includes delivering the north-facing ramps at the Dohles Rocks Road interchange at Murrumba Downs.
“These major upgrades – including the north-facing ramps onto the Bruce Highway – will ensure the road network copes with significant population growth in Brisbane and the Moreton Bay Region, which is increasing travel demand on the Gateway Motorway, the Bruce Highway and Gympie Arterial Road.
“This is fantastic news for the drivers of around 155,000 vehicles travelling along this corridor between Moreton Bay and Brisbane daily.”
Federal Minister for Population, Cities and Urban Infrastructure Alan Tudge added, “This is one of Queensland’s busiest road corridors and it’s expected that demand will double in the next 20 years.
“Community consultation will guide how we can deliver the best outcome for the region which includes the continued economic development of the Australia Trade Coast region.”
According to Queensland Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Mark Bailey, an integrated approach to planning was underway for the upgrades to ensure a whole-of-network solution is achieved.
“The planning will also encompass building a new arterial road between Dohles Rocks Road and Anzac Avenue,” Mr Bailey said. “This corridor, which we’ve dubbed the ‘Moreton Connector’, will provide an alternative route for local traffic and take traffic off the Bruce Highway, preserving it for inter-regional trips and as a nationally significant freight corridor.
“Due to the significant size and complexity of the project area where the upgrades were proposed, substantial planning must be undertaken.
Mr Bailey added it was important to engage with key stakeholders and the community in the early stages of this project to provide input into the planning process. Consultation is underway through an online survey.
Initial planning investigations are underway with all business cases expected to be completed by 2024. Consultation will be ongoing through to the completion of the project construction. Design and construction timeframes will be confirmed as planning progresses.
