Sydney couple fined $9000 for border breach in truck

A couple from Sydney has been fined over $9000 for a border breach into Queensland, where they were stopped by police.

The Sydney pair was stopped by the Road Policing Task Force on the Bruce Highway at Murrumba Downs on Wednesday afternoon and fined for the border breach.

The truck driver was crossing using a freight category border declaration pass, however it’s alleged his partner was travelling without a separate declaration pass.

They were each issued with a $4003 Penalty Infringement Notice for failing to comply with Queensland’s COVID-19 Border Direction. Heavy vehicle traffic infringements totalling $1305 were also issued.

With current Queensland border restrictions, anyone who has been in a COVID-19 hotspot within the last 14 days cannot enter the state unless they have a valid border declaration pass. Separate declaration passes are required for every person entering Queensland and all people travelling together must be eligible to enter the state.
