Hero truckie Brendan Farrell carts toys to families doing it tough

Burrumbuttock hero Brendan Farrell swaps hay for a different kind of payload into some of the remotest regions of Australia this weekend.

Thanks to sponsor Big W and a host of other private donations, Farrell and a couple of close mates are embarking on a toy run to the parched NSW outback that would do Santa proud.

“We want to show those kids out there who have been in drought for five, six, seven years, that someone still cares,” says Farrell on his Facebook page.

Farrell and his cohorts leave Burrumbuttock on Sunday for a seven-day sleigh run that takes in Louth, Tilpa, White Cliffs, and Packsaddle, before winding up in Tibooburra, one of the remotest spots in the state.

“This is about the pill of giving,” adds Farrell.

“The coronavirus has played havoc, and that’s about all you hear about on the news, but you’ve got to remember that a lot of other people are doing it tough, and you have to make sure that is voiced as well.”

As for where and when his next hay run will take place, Farrell says he’ll be rallying his loyal band of truckies again for a convoy into outback Queensland in January next year.
