Capacity limitations eased on warehouses and distribution centres

The elimination of workforce capacity limits at Victorian warehouses and distribution centres is an encouraging sign that the Victorian economy is starting to emerge from COVID lockdown restrictions in place across the state.

“The Victorian Government has eased workforce capacity limitations on warehouses and distribution centres as part of its progressive easing of COVID-19 restrictions, in line with reducing caseloads and community transmission of coronavirus in Victoria,” said VTA CEO Peter Anderson.

“In welcome news for the transport industry, retailers and consumers, supermarkets and food distribution centres, warehouses and postal distribution centres in Melbourne and greater Victoria can return to full capacity immediately, provided those businesses have a COVID Safe Plan in place across their workforce.”

The changes were announced by Premier Daniel Andrews yesterday and confirmed in an advisory from Freight Victoria.

Anderson said whilst the freight industry has faced fewer disruptions than other sectors during the coronavirus pandemic, it is encouraging that some normalcy is returning to supply chains in Victoria with workforce capacity limits removed at these facilities.

“This will enable supply chains to gear up for the forthcoming Christmas trading period by ensuring warehouses and DC’s are fully stocked to meet retail and consumer demand, ultimately creating more work for transport operators.

“We acknowledge and congratulate the Victorian Government for listening in our consultations. The VTA will continue to advocate for policy settings that support the transport industry, which continues to operate safely, productively and efficiently for the benefit of communities and our broader economy,” Anderson said.
