With the recent promotion of Tony O’Connell to Managing Director of Volvo Trucks Malaysia, Volvo Trucks Australia is pleased to announce that Gary Bone has taken on the role of Vice President, Volvo Trucks Australia.
“In a rapidly changing transport environment I am delighted to see Gary back at the helm of the Volvo Trucks brand,” said Martin Merrick, President and CEO, Volvo Group Australia.
“We have just launched an amazing new line up of Volvo Trucks onto the Australian market and Gary will be well placed to steer the Volvo brand into a future that will see significant advancement in the next decade.”
Bone has 17 years’ experience with Mack and Volvo Group Australia, initially starting out in Mack retail sales.
Since then he has held a number of roles, including two years in the USA with the Mack brand, before assuming the position of Senior Vice President of Mack Trucks Australia from 2005 to 2008, and as Vice President of Volvo Trucks Australia from 2009 to 2013.
Bone rejoined Volvo Group Australia as Vice President, Mack Trucks Australia in March 2020 after more than five years at the helm of Chesterfield Australia.
“I feel privileged to be climbing into the driver’s seat of the Volvo brand at this point in its history,” said Bone.
“Our best range ever is hitting the road this year, our electrification journey has begun and we now have some of the safest, smartest, most connected heavy vehicles on the Australian market with an aftermarket offering second to none.
“Our strength as Volvo Group Australia is the ability to find the right transport solution for our customers, from medium duty urban distribution to long haul cab-over and conventional.
“There’s always a special place for the Mack brand in my heart and I look forward to working closely with my successor at Mack to continue to drive innovation and success in the Australian transport industry.”
Bone’s role as Vice President, Volvo Trucks Australia is effective immediately.
Merrick will be acting Vice President, Mack Trucks Australia until the position is filled.
