Victorian operator charged over dangerous goods storage

A logistics operator has been charged by WorkSafe Victoria over alleged breaches of the Dangerous Goods Act at a site in Tottenham.

Crossroads Logistics Pty Ltd is facing four charges under section 31(1) of the Act.

WorkSafe Victoria alleges Crossroads failed to take all reasonable precautions to prevent tampering, theft or unauthorised access involving dangerous goods that were stored at the premises between March 2019 and March 2020.

It is also alleged the company failed to take all reasonable precautions to prevent the leakage of dangerous goods and to prevent a fire or explosion at the site.

WorkSafe Victoria further alleges Crossroads failed to take all reasonable precautions to prevent any damage to property or danger to the public by an accident involving dangerous goods at the premises.

The site is not the location of the 2018 chemical fire at Tottenham.

A filing hearing is due to take place at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this month.
