Truckie Profiles

New rig for this Townsville truckie

Recently when Big Rigs caught up with Shane Walshe, he was busy cleaning the interior of the near new Mercedes Benz 2646 with automatic transmission, which he drives for Brisbane based ACFS Port Logistics. It has depots around the country.

Walshe was in Townsville, carrying containers for a supermarket chain. “I am an ex-Kiwi and was born in Christchurch. I have been in Australia since 1994,” he said.

Aged 49, Walshe said he finds the Clermont to Charters Towers road a challenge to travel on.

He likes stopping at Townsville’s giant BP Cluden Roadhouse for several reasons. “There is lots of parking, the facilities, including the showers, are great and the food tops. I like the big breakfast they serve,” he said.

Walshe has been a truckie for around 30 years and loves the job. “It keeps my mind active,” he said.

His hobbies when off duty include fishing and golf and he is a member of the Royal Pines Club in southern Queensland.

“I take my eight-year-old son Arakai fishing at Scarborough on the Sunshine Coast,” he said.

Standing at 166cm tall, Walshe said that had lots of advantages.

He added that he likes reading Big Rigs and can’t wait for his picture and story to appear.
