Extension of Victoria’s Stage 3 COVID restrictions

No doubt you are as disappointed as I am with the news that the lockdown in Victoria is to be extended by a further seven days until Thursday June 10, albeit with changes that will ease some of the restrictions in Melbourne and regional Victoria.

Of much consolation is that as an essential service, freight and logistics operators are permitted to carry out their work delivering fresh food and groceries to supermarkets, fuel to petrol stations, building and raw materials to construction sites and factories, and deliveries to Victorians confined to their homes.

Transport workers have done a remarkable job over the past 18 months servicing their customers safely and efficiently under incredibly challenging and stressful conditions. It is important that we continue to operate in this way so that transport businesses can remain open and continue to employ workers to carry out the vital services we provide to the community, which keeps our economy growing and strong.

During this period of enhanced restrictions, please ensure your drivers continue to observe public health advice in regards to social distancing, mask wearing and refraining from work – and getting tested – if they have ANY symptoms of COVID, and to refrain from visiting any parts of the community that are off limits, particularly in regional Victoria.

The only way we can avoid any future reinstatement of draconian restrictions on movement and trade is to act responsibly to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 in our community. Should you have any questions on how the current restrictions may impact your business please contact the VTA on 03 9646 8590.
