Vaccine access for supply chain workers under review

The Australian Logistics Council (ALC) has today welcomed the decision of National Cabinet to seek advice from the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) on expediting Covid-19 vaccinations for interstate freight transport, mining (FIFO) workers and aviation.

ALC and its members have argued for urgent and immediate access to the vaccine for high-risk supply chain workers due to the serious risk to the Australian supply chain if workers contracted the virus.

ALC Interim Chief Executive Officer Rachel Smith said, “The evolving situation demonstrates the speed at which infections can occur.

“Australia cannot risk the shutdown of distribution centres or a reduction in the numbers of available heavy vehicle drivers. Ensuring the continued flow of the nation’s food, medical, and essential goods supplies should be a priority.

“ALC hopes the AHPCC can provide advice to National Cabinet as quickly as possible so that a sustainable Australian supply chain can continue to operate.”
