New mental health app launched for transport industry

A new mobile app has been created with the aim of providing supply chain workers with better access to mental health and physical wellbeing support.

The Healthy Heads app was launched by Healthy Heads in Trucks & Sheds (HHTS), which provides mental health and wellbeing support for those in the road transport, warehousing and logistics sector.

With nearly 95 per cent of all road freight operators being small businesses, HHTS – with the support of the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) – developed an app that aims to improve ease of access to information, tools and support when it comes to individual mental health and physical wellbeing.

In its first phase of development, the Healthy Heads App includes:

  • A self-check-in quiz to help increase self-awareness
  • Access to resources to create greater resilience
  • Tools to help better manage day-to-day life
  • Access to urgent support services

“Through focus groups and user testing, with representatives from across the sector, we found a demand for easy to access, relevant information, particularly relating to starting a conversation and improving diet and physical wellbeing. The App has a strong linkage to our recently launched National Mental Health and Wellbeing Roadmap, reinforcing the steps that can be taken to address some of the key industry mental health risk factors,” said HHTS CEO Naomi Frauenfelder.

“We are excited to provide the industry with this tool, but more importantly, will continue to build out additional capabilities within the app over the coming months. With a strong focus towards a function that allows users to rate facilities including highway rest stops.”

NHVR CEO Sal Petroccitto adds that the app could not have come at a more critical time for the heavy vehicle industry. “The Healthy Heads App is another a step in the right direction to support the mental health and physical wellbeing of everyone in the industry, particularly as we navigate through the current challenges,” he said.

“I congratulate HHTS on the delivery of the app and encourage everyone in the industry to download it and use it regularly.

“Together, we’ll continue to support one another and look out for those who may be doing it tough – that’s what our industry has always done, and that’s what we’ll continue to do.”

The Healthy Heads App is available to download for free through the Apple Store (for iPhone) and Google Play (for Android).
