Nominations open for automotive trainer scholarship

Two aspiring automotive trainers will get the opportunity to chase their dream and further their career in the automotive industry, with the Motor Trades Association of Queensland (MTA Queensland) launching the second round of the MTA Queensland VET Trainer Scholarship.

Through the VET Trainer Scholarship, one female and one male candidate will win a fully funded TAE40116 Certificate IB in Training and Assessment course, delivered by an approved registered training organisation (RTO).

This highly sought-after course is designed to provide the skills and knowledge required to successfully develop and deliver training in the vocational education and training (VET) sector.

Valued at over $2500, the Trainer Scholarship is open to all Queensland-based, trade-qualified automotive professionals who possess at least 5-years post-apprenticeship experience in any of the following automotive areas – light vehicle, heavy vehicle, auto electrical, motorcycle, mobile plant, agricultural, parts interpreting, outdoor power equipment, automotive body repair and refinishing, and underbody.

“Following strong interest in the first offering of the Trainer Scholarship, we are really excited to be able to offer two more individuals the opportunity to upskill and start their journey on the path to becoming an automotive trainer,” said MTA Institute’s General Manager, Paul Kulpa.

“The MTA Institute is committed to addressing the skills shortage that exists across the Queensland automotive trade, and this includes ensuring the industry has adequate access to skilled trainers to train the next generation of automotive professionals.”

The VET Trainer Scholarship was launched in late 2020, with the first scholarship awarded to 15-year veteran of the industry Wayne Herring from Cricks Sunshine Coast in April of this year.

Nominations for the VET Trainer Scholarship close COB Wednesday, September 1, with the winners to be announced in early October.
