From today, all heavy vehicle drivers entering SA from NSW, Victoria and the ACT will need to show evidence that they’ve had at least one Covid jab.
This will apply to all commercial transport and freight workers who have visited NSW, Victoria and the ACT in the last 14 days before arriving in SA.
Vaccination evidence can be submitted online to save time at the border.
All those who are current holders of Essential Traveller permits were contacted by SA Police on Saturday to advise them of the new rules.
The email requested permit holders to provide a copy of their vaccination evidence via email to SAPOL’s Central Assessment Unit at SAPOL.Covid19Command@police.sa.gov.au.
Evidence includes a copy of any document provided to you by your health care worker at the time of your immunisation, or the Medicare certificate for those fully vaccinated.
“Once evidence is provided, the traveller’s Cross Border Permit will then be updated, with no requirement to produce the evidence on a subsequent arrival if travelling on the same permit,” SA Police said in a statement.
This rule will also apply to other essential travellers entering SA after being in NSW, Victoria or ACT in the previous 14 days, with rules for this category of travellers coming into effect from October 11.
The SA Road Transport Association (SARTA) also advised of the rule changes via its Facebook page, urging those who fall into the above category to submit vaccination evidence online to save time at the border.
“This will reduce time at border check points and you only have to do it once (per permit validity period) if you submit your vaccination evidence online,” wrote SARTA.
On the SA Government website, it advised, “A person who is unable to produce the evidence may only enter South Australia with an exemption from the Department for Health and Wellbeing.
“This requirement also does not apply if: the person has a medical exemption from receiving the COVID-19 vaccine; or the person is pregnant.”
