2021 Trish Pickering Memorial Award recipient honoured

Hazel Whitmore, of Whitmore Buslines has been awarded the 2021 Trish Pickering Memorial Award – awarded to a female in the transport industry who has contributed over a prolonged period of time and has been dedicated to the improvement of the industry.

Recipients are chosen by the Transport Women Australia Limited (TWAL) organisation and Wes Pickering (husband of the late Trish Pickering).

in 1964, Hazel and her husband Reg, purchased the Leaghur school bus run, which saw Hazel driving full time for over 30 years. Over two decades, the pair built up a strong bus business, laying the foundations for what was to become one of the Northern Victoria’s largest family-owned companies. After Reg’s passing in 2002, Hazel managed the financial and administration side of the company, fundamentally shaping the way it is today.

Whitmore was presented with the award at the TWAL end of year dinner on Wednesday night by TWAL Chair, Jacquelene Brotherton.

“We are so honoured to present this award to such an outstanding female role model and leader as Hazel,” said Brotherton.

Dr Julia Evans poke on behalf of the Victorian Bus Association about the contribution Hazel has made to the Bus industry and the Association for over 50 years. Wes Pickering, who was unable to attend in person, congratulated Hazel via message in his absence.

“Unfortunately, I am unable to be here to personally present this award-yesterday would have been Trish’s’ 56th birthday and our kids and friends spent it with good memories,” said Pickering.

“Congratulations to you Hazel, on your lifetime of service and your many achievements in life and the Transport industry.”
