Reality TV show favourite, Outback Truckers has won the Most Popular Factual Program award at the TV Blackbox Awards.
The program was announced the during the TV Blackbox live stream on Sunday, hosted by The Morning Show host, Larry Emdur.
First airing in 2012, the 7mate show has grown in popularity during its nine-season run with a focus on the transport industry, selected drivers and the problems they overcome each day.
The show’s win at the TV Blackbox Awards came after an aggressive social media campaign, beating home other category nominees from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation stable including; Old People’s Home for Four Year Olds (ABC), Anh’s Brush With Fame (ABC), You Can’t Ask That (ABC) and Australian Story (ABC).
Steve Grahame, who is a show regular delivering building supplies and essentials to some of the most remote communities in Australia, was the driving force behind the campaign.
“The team deserved it. They’ve done a wonderful job in getting us truckies out there to Australia and the rest of the world,” said Grahame.
On learning his efforts helped push Outback Truckers to victory, Grahame was thrilled with the result.
“Well, I’ll be blowed, that is wonderful,” said Grahame.
“Firstly, thank you for the TV Blackbox Awards and the other nominees for being in there. I’ll be honoured to accept this on behalf of Julia Redwood and her team at Prospero Productions.
“I can’t believe it’s nine years ago when I was first approached that I’d be here accepting an award like this.”
