Hurdle for Raglan service station proposal

Plans for a truck service station between Rockhampton and Gladstone have been put on hold by the State’s planning department amid concerns over access and safety.

The plans were initially submitted for the 24-hour truck service station by Gladstone-based company BGT Properties, and included four vehicle bowsers, two truck bowsers, retail building, truckers lounge, rest rooms and car parking to be located next to the Raglan Tavern.

Those plans were submitted to Gladstone Regional Council (GRC) in October this year, however the application was referred to the State’s planning department, State Assessment and Referral Agency (SARA), who had concerns over southbound travelling vehicles to access the potential site.

Of particular concern was the right-turn exit onto the Bruce Highway.

The original plans included double-barrier lines which prevented vehicles from making right-hand turns to access the proposed service station. SARA believes this would not be suitable for a rural environment and as such have been considered a safety hazard.

As a result, the right-turn access to a proposed new service station between Rockhampton and Gladstone will need to be revised before the application can proceed to the next step of the assessment process.

The developers have until March 4, 2022 to provide a response.

Big Rigs have approached BGT Properties for comment.
