Lineage Logistics acquires Auscold Logistics

Global refrigerated logistics giant Lineage Logistics has acquired South Australian transport and warehousing company Auscold Logistics.

Based in the US based, Lineage Logistics is the world’s largest provider of temperature-controlled logistics solutions.

It has made a string of acquisitions globally in recent times including taking over Emergent Cold around 12 months ago in a deal that was reportedly worth US$900 million (A$1.23 billion) – granting the business entry into the Australian, New Zealand and Sri Lankan markets.

Lineage already has operations in NSW, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia.

The acquisition of Auscold is part of the company’s bid to increase its facility footprint and further expand into South Australia – though the financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The acquisition includes Auscold’s Adelaide warehouse and a fleet of over 70 GPS tracked, temperature-controlled trucks, which are used to transport daily dry, chilled and frozen freight to Australia’s capital cities and major regional centres.

Lineage Logistics says the deal will complement its regional distribution centre in Adelaide, bringing cold storage capacity up to 32,000 sqm and 27,700 pallet positions across the two facilities.

Auscold brings to the table a full suite of quarantine-approved, multi-temperature storage across over 11,000 frozen and refrigerated pallets, and a 3600 sqm chilled cross dock area. The business transports confectionery, pharmaceutical products, and frozen, chilled and fresh produce.

“The Auscold business will broaden our reach across the nation, particularly in southern Australia, and greatly benefit South Australian businesses’ supply chains,” said Jeff Hogarth, senior vice president Asia Pacific at Lineage.

“This acquisition is a key development in our plans to bring best-in-class cold storage companies into the Lineage family to connect the end-to-end supply chain dots for customers.”
