Flooding has forced the closure of a number of roads around Gympie and the Wide Bay region after widespread heavy rainfall, reports the Department of Transport and Main Roads’ heavy vehicles unit.
Heavy vehicle access along the Bruce Highway is currently restricted with the Bruce Highway closed at a number of locations between Gympie and Maryborough.
Access via the Bruce Highway south from Gladstone to Maryborough is currently unrestricted.
Access via the Bruce Highway north of Gladstone is not impacted by this flooding event.
Heavy vehicles up to and including B-doubles operating under the National Class 2 B-double Authorisation Notice 2020 can access the following alternative route between Brisbane and Gladstone:
- Warrego Highway to Dalby
- Dalby-Jandowae Road to Jinghi
- Chinchilla-Wondai Road to Durong
- Munduberra-Durong Road to Munduberra
- Burnett Highway through Eidsvold, Monto to Biloela
- Dawson Highway to Calliope where it joins the Bruce Highway

Meanwhile, police have made an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) due to the ongoing flooding at Maryborough this afternoon.
An exclusion zone has been established following continued rising water levels, with police providing assistance with the emergency evacuation.
The exclusion zone includes parts of Adelaide Street, Kent Street, Lennox Street, Alice Street and Richmond Street.
Businesses and residents within the exclusion area have been door knocked and advised to leave for higher ground as soon as possible.
