Flinders Highway bridge to close for upgrades

An important bridge serving outback Queensland will be temporarily closed for resurfacing works next month.

Works will be carried out on the Macrossan Bridge on the Flinders Highway, between Townsville and Charters Towers, between May 9-18.

The bridge will be fully closed to traffic for nightworks on Monday May 9 and Tuesday May 10, between 8pm-4am.

Day works will also take place from 7am-4pm daily between Thursday May 12 and Wednesday May 18.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads has advised that single lane closures will be in place during day works, which will result in traffic delays.

Wide loads will not be permitted across the bridge for the duration of the works.

Traffic controllers and Queensland Police will be onsite while works are carried out.
