Thurwood Refrigerated Transport fleet on offer at unreserved auction

After 37 years in the industry, Terry Thurwood, founder of Swan Hill-based Thurwood Refrigerated Transport, has chosen to sell his entire fleet with Ritchie Bros. auctioneers.

Thurwood’s large fleet of late model Kenworths and FTE and MaxiTrans refrigerated trailers go under the hammer at the Ritchie Bros. National Unreserved EOFY Auction on June 22-23.

A media statement from Ritchie Bros. said Thurwood, a well-respected veteran in the transport industry, has decided it was time for a new chapter after establishing Thurwood Refrigerated Transport from just one truck and one flat top trailer.

Requests from Big Rigs for an interview went unanswered, but a letter circulated on social media that Thurwood sent to customers last month advising them of his decision reveals how tough the decision must have been.

“It is with a heavy heart that I write to you to inform you that I have decided to retire,” writes Thurwood.

“I would like to thank you for your collaboration and friendship over the years. It has been my pleasure to share with you this amazing journey of 37 years of being in business.”

Ritchie Bros. regional sales manager Cody Watson said assets such as those offered by Thurwood are in hot demand with buyers looking to skip the long wait times.

“There remains a very good appetite for transport gear in 2022; with rising prices of new machinery and lengthy wait times,” Watson said.

“OEMs are not expected to see production return to pre pandemic levels while supply chain bottlenecks continue to slow production on new trucks and trailers. The drawcard for our National Unreserved EOFY Auction is that everything will sell to the highest bidder on the day. The successful bidder will be able to pick up their assets the very next day.”

Assets in this dispersal include:

  • 9 x 2016-2019 Kenworth K200 Big Cabs
  • 2019 Kenworth T909
  • 2018 Kenworth T659
  • 2 x 2018 Kenworth T610SAR’s
  • 3 x 2004-2006 Kenworth K104’s
  • 2006 Kenworth T950 Tradition
  • 2007 Kenworth T404SAR
  • 1993 Ford L9000
  • 2010 Daysworth TT120 Terminal Tractor
  • Large quantity of late model FTE & MaxiTrans Reefer Trailers

“With over 1500 assets already consigned to our largest end-of-financial-year event, and more being added daily, we’re expecting a lot of interest. With record-high demand for quality transport equipment, Terry has decided now is the perfect opportunity to sell his fleet with confidence,” said Watson.

Bidders are encouraged to inspect onsite at Ritchie Bros. Geelong yard which is open for inspections Monday through to Friday and on Saturday, June 18.

The event will be held exclusively online with those interested in bidding urged to register to bid before the auction. Day one of the auction (June 22) will be dedicated to construction and crushing gear while day two (June 23) will focus on transportation and agriculture assets.
