A route around flood-stricken Maitland and Singleton is now available for heavy vehicles, advises the freight branch of Transport for NSW.
Travelling north from Newcastle the route is:
- Hunter Expressway to Branxton
- New England Highway to Whittingham
- Golden Highway from Whittingham to Denman
- Denman Road to Muswellbrook then re-join the New England Highway.
The southbound journey is the reverse.
The freight branch said that OSOM vehicles operating under the Multi-State Class 1 Load Carrying Vehicles Mass and/or Dimension Exemption Notices can use the available detours if they are suitable for their combination.
“Operators are reminded that under Schedule 8 of the Heavy Vehicle (Mass, Dimension and Loading) National Regulation (NSW), there is a requirement for the driver and operator to scope the proposed route prior to travel to ensure it is suitable for their vehicle,” said the notice.
“OSOM vehicles operating under a specific permit are reminded that travel is only permitted on the roads listed in their permit.
“If travel is required on the detour, operators will need to contact the NHVR to request an amendment to the route on their permit.”
Transport for NSW thanks operators for their patience during this time.
