Roving truckies’ advocate Tony Fulton, of Tones Truckin Stories fame, is hosting a free BBQ for truckies at the Gatton rest area, 7km west of the Gatton pads in Queensland today.

The Warrego Highway event starts at midday and runs until 6pm with food and other giveaways donated by sponsors and local businesses around the Gatton area, thanks to the help of Sarah Ando.

While the day is part-promotional for his truckies’ navigational app Truckwiz, Fulton says it’s also chance to thank truckies for the work they do and talk through the many  issues they might be having.

There will also be free refreshments, stickers, stubbie coolers, bottle openers and one lucky truckie will also win a “massive” prize from sponsor Omikron Auto Detailing Products.

“That will be about $400 worth of truck cleaning prodcuts,” said Fulton.

Fulton will also be fundraising for worthy local truckie-related causes in the area.

The ambassador for Beefit Up Australia, a charity that provides social and economic support to rural communities, held a similar event at Sleepy Hollow, NSW, last week with about 40 truckies attending and donating to a fundraiser for Broadwater flood relief.
