Road sign blunder

A road sign installed as part of a $20 million upgrade to a major Gold Coast road has left some scratching their head in confusion.

The embarrassing road sign blunder was found at the new M1 interchange at Ormeau, with arrows to Stapylton and Pimpama pointing in the wrong direction.

Coomera MP Michael Crandon shared a photo of the sign on Facebook, taking aim at Transport and Main Roads.

“Whoops!” he said. “Not only a 20 Million Dollar bandaid solution @ Exit 45, but they can’t even send people in the right direction.”

A Transport and Main Roads spokesperson told the Gold Coast Bulletin that the sign is due to be replaced on Monday night.

“As the road is still a closed worksite and not open to traffic, there is no impact to the community in relation to travel or guidance,” they said.

“The sign was installed on Monday night due to a human error and was picked up at the end of night works, but was not able to be removed during the shift.

“The issue has no impact on the program of works or any proposed reopening/staging for the project.

“The contractor will replace the sign at their own cost.”
