Police investigate if road rage to blame for four-truck smash

Police allege that a Range Rover has overtaken a truck travelling inbound on the M80 Ring Road in Melbourne yesterday, before suddenly braking and causing a four-truck crash.

The incident occurred at about 1pm near the Sydney Road overpass, leaving one of the truck drivers involved in the incident fighting for life. He was transported to hospital in a critical condition.

Lanes for all Altona-bound lanes of the M80 at Sydney Road and Pascoe Vale Road were closed for almost four hours.

The driver of the dark-coloured Range Rover allegedly left the scene and Victoria Police is now appealing for anyone who has dashcam footage or any other information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.

Acting Assistant Commissioner for Road Policing, Justin Goldsmith, said it appeared the driver of the Range Rover acted out of “frustration or spite”.

“It’s absolute stupidity and it’s a lack of respect,” he told Tony Jones, filling in for Neil Mitchell on the 3AW radio station.
