Freight branch warns truckies of flooding in western NSW

Extensive rainfall is now resulting in minor to moderate flooding in parts of the state, warns the freight branch of Transport for NSW.

Operators are advised that the flood situation in NSW is changing rapidly and road closures are occurring with little notice, causing significant delays in some locations.

As of 1pm, Friday, September 16, the following roads are closed:

  • Lachlan Valley Way closed between Forbes and Gooloogong.
  • Forbes to Gooloogong traffic diverted via Newell Hwy and Mid Western Hwy.
  • Gooloogong to Forbes traffic diverted via Warraderry Way, Mid Western Hwy and Newell Hwy.

Mitchell Hwy

The Mitchell Hwy between Molong and Wellington is now open under stop/slow with escort.

Newell Hwy

The Macquarie River in Dubbo is expected to peak at 7.9m later this evening. When this occurs, the Emile Serisier Bridge on Erskine Street (Newell Hwy) will be affected, with partial or full closure expected later today. Local diversions will be in place via the L.H. Ford Bridge (Mitchell Hwy) under traffic control. Delays are expected, operators are advised to delay travel or avoid the are if possible.

Operators should be aware of water over the road on the Newell Hwy between Forbes and Parkes, please take caution and drive to the conditions.

The Escort Way

The Escort Way between Forbes and Eugowra is currently open to heavy vehicles noting water over the road. Stop/slow with escort vehicle is in place, please follow the directions of traffic control and drive to the conditions.
