Latest lane closures and width restrictions impacting truckies in Queensland

The heavy vehicles unit of the Department of Transport and Main Roads has released a series of wide load restrictions and lane closures to industry in recent days.

Here’s a summary of what you need to know.

Tallebudgera – Pacific Motorway (M1) northbound between Exits 95 and 89

From Monday, February 13 to Thursday, February 16, the northbound lanes of the M1 at Exit 89 will temporarily close for up to 15 minutes each hour between 8pm and 1am, while bridge piles are being raised.
 
Traffic control will be in place from Currumbin (Exit 95) to Tallebudgera (Exit 89) during this time. Road users will be required to travel behind escort vehicles at a reduced speed, gradually approaching the temporary lane closure point.

Woombye and Forest Glen – Bruce Highway

From Sunday, February 19 until Friday, February 24, between 7pm and 5am each day, the northbound side of the Bruce Highway will be closed south of the Maroochydore Road interchange for pavement works, weather permitting.

Note, this closure was planned for February 5-10.

A detour via Chevallum Road and Maroochydore Road interchange is available between 7pm and 5am each day for vehicles that do not exceed 4m wide, 5m high, and or 30m in length. Traffic will resume as normal outside of these hours.

Vehicles exceeding 4m wide, 5m high, and or 30m in length must contact the Contractor’s Representative on 1800 512 211 or comms.bhmip@jhswjv.com.au to confirm route availability prior to travel.

Walkers Creek Bridge – Flinders Highway

From 6am – 6pm Monday, February 20 to Sunday, March 5 (weather permitting), temporary width restrictions will be in place at Walkers Creek Bridge located 69km along the Flinders Highway (Hughenden – Richmond), while works are completed to replace the bridge deck wearing surfaces.

Vehicles with a ground contact width or load width exceeding 3m will be restricted during the construction period however travel between 6pm and 6am is permitted.

Vehicles with loads exceeding 3m wide:

  • Will only be permitted at daylight hours between 6am and 6pm with prior arrangement.
  • Must contact Robin Van Der Ploeg 24 hours before arrival at site on 0437 304 081.
  • Failure to comply may result in delays to your journey.

Currumbin – Pacific Highway southbound, Exit 93

From 8pm on Monday, February 20, the M1 southbound Exit 93 onto Sarawak Avenue will permanently close to all traffic.

To access Sarawak Avenue and the suburbs of Currumbin and Elanora, all motorists will take the southbound Exit 92 (Palm Beach) and continue through the intersection and along the new one-way Eastern Service Road that links Palm Beach Avenue to Sarawak Avenue (and Guineas Creek Road).

Alick Creek Bridge – Flinders Highway

From 6am – 6pm on Friday, March 17 to Friday, March 24 (weather permitting), temporary width restrictions will be in place at Alick Creek Bridge located at 44km east of Julia Creek along the Flinders Highway (Richmond – Julia Creek), while works are completed to replace the bridge deck wearing surfaces.

Vehicles with a ground contact width or load width exceeding 3m will be restricted during the construction period however travel between 6pm and 6am is permitted provided you have a permit that allows for night time travel.

Vehicles with loads exceeding 3m wide:

  • Will only be permitted at daylight hours between 6am and 6pm with prior arrangement.
  • Must contact Glenike Hawea 24 hours prior to arrival on 0429 509 552.
  • Failure to comply may result in delays to your journey.
