Busy Queensland intersection reopens

Following major upgrades, including strengthening the road for heavy vehicles, this busy Rockhampton intersection has now reopened.

The intersection at Farm and Alexandra Streets, Parkhurst, sees high traffic and heavy vehicle use.

Infrastructure councillor Ellen Smith said safety was at the forefront of this project, with the upgrades designed to improve safety and congestion.

“Road works entailed increasing the existing pavement thickness to cater for heavy vehicles, widening corners to improve safety for turning vehicles, installing a left and right turning lanes on Farm Street for turning north into Alexandra Street, new kerb and channel, concrete footpaths, additional drainage, and new asphalt surfacing.”

Smith added that this was a very complex and large project. “We really want to thank the community and businesses for their patience during this time. Crews undertook a full reconstruction to future proof the intersection.”

Divisional councillor Donna Kirkland added, “With more development in the area and more heavy vehicles, this intersection will only get busier which is why we needed to make sure it could handle the increase in traffic and population going forward.”
