Prime mover damaged by improperly loaded vehicle

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator says its safety and compliance officers in Victoria are investigating an incident where a small truck has caused significant damage to a parked prime mover.

According to the NHVR, a length of steel tubing being carried by the vehicle dislodged during transit and was sideways out of the truck’s rear.

“The steel tubing hit the side of a parked prime mover and seriously damaged the heavy vehicle. Given the height, this could have been a severe injury if it had impacted a pedestrian, cyclist, or motorcyclist,” the NHVR said, while reminding operators to always check their load is secured properly and appropriately.

Loading requirements, including the Load Restraint Guide, can be found here.
