Truckie killed after hitting cow then tree near Geelong

A truckie has died following a crash in Moriac, 22km west of Geelong, on Saturday, July 1.

According to a police media statement, police were called to Hendy Main Road after a 39-year-old truck driver struck a cow, veered off the road and crashed into a tree, about 6.15am.

Emergency crews tried to save him, but sadly the Caroline Springs man died at the scene.

Victoria Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.

One Moriac resident, who did not want to be named, told media it was common to see cows “wander out” in the area.

A deceased animal involved in the crash was located on the side of the road.

“It’s regular that they get out around here,” he said.
