WA operator wins dream Kenworth Legend SAR with $1000 punt

Kenworth SAR

WA operator Peter Whytcross is the lucky winner of a $413,085 Kenworth Legend SAR in the Hepburn Football and Netball Club’s fundraising raffle.

There were just 1000 tickets in the famous draw, at $1000 each, with two consolation prizes of $10,000 fuel vouchers going to Andrew Dickins and Jason Mattern.

Whytcross, the co-founder of the National Road Freighters Association with Mick Pattel, was blown away by the big win on July 2.

The 63-year-old had splashed out himself in 2021 to buy his own commemorative SAR, released in conjunction with Kenworth celebrating 50 years of manufacturing trucks in Australia, but he’s still awaiting his order.

“I’m just over the moon, I couldn’t believe it,” said Whytcross, who was back driving his triple road train, half-way between his Port Hedland base and a mine site when the life-changing call came through from club vice president Jason Dooley (see the club’s Facebook video clip of the call below).

“It’s a real good boost. You work your guts out all your life and to see something like this come along at the end, it really makes you appreciate the hard work that you’ve put in.”
