The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is seeking truckies’ input about the New England Highway between Cooyar Creek Bridge and Back Creek Bridge, Cooyar.
Consultation aims to gather local views and identify community concerns about road safety and freight efficiency to inform planning for future upgrades, said TMR.
Truckies who have ideas for improving the busy freight route are encouraged to have their say online by clicking here. Submissions close on August 30.
They can also email the department at DownsSWR.Office@tmr.qld.gov.au or call 4639 0777. This planning project is being delivered under the Transport System Planning Program funded by the Queensland Government.
There is no funding for construction, however, planning will be used to inform funding prioritisation.
“The planning project will investigate how safety and efficiency can be improved on this section of highway that carries high volumes of traffic, including freight,” TMR’s Southern Queensland regional director, Bill Lansbury.
“Investigations will consider the New England Highway at Cooyar including Back Creek bridge and between Back Creek and Cooyar Creek bridges, including the New England Highway and Cooyar–Rangemore Road and McDougall Street intersections.
“This section of the highway services major industries by providing a key freight corridor between the Darling Downs and South Burnett.”
