Followmont Transport will provide a home for the St John Eye Van when it’s not out in the field, ensuring the trailer is well-maintained, serviced, cleaned and ready to hit the road as part of St John’s operating schedule.
That’s part of a new partnership with the St John Eye Van, which continues to make an impact on the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders with diabetes in rural and remote communities.
The St John Eye Van’s mission is to eliminate preventable blindness and visual impairment among Indigenous communities by providing world-class eye health facilities directly to those who need it most.
With a focus on accessibility and cultural sensitivity, the eye van aims to bridge the health gap and ensure that every individual receives the best possible eye care.
The fully equipped ophthalmology and optometry treatment centre on wheels brings cutting-edge diagnostic and treatment instruments right to the doorsteps of the communities it serves.
Followmont managing director, Mark Tobin, connected with the organisation through sponsors UD Trucks Australia and found out that the van needed a base to return to when the truck was not in use. “We are proud to play a role in supporting this initiative,” he said.
“Our Brisbane depot will serve as a home for the eye van when it’s not out in the field and our team will ensure the trailer is regularly serviced, washed and ready to hit the road whenever needed.
“This partnership is a testament to our commitment to improving the wellbeing of all and having a positive impact on the community.
“Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of countless individuals, ensuring that eye health is a right, not a privilege.”
