The Victorian Transport Association has congratulated Jacinta Allan on her election as Premier of Victoria and leader of the Victorian Labor Party following the resignation of Daniel Andrews last week.
CEO Peter Anderson said the VTA are pleased to see the retention of important freight and logistics portfolios among key ministers, which provides certainty for the transport industry.
“Chief among these roles is the retention of the Roads & Road Safety and Ports & Freight portfolios by Melissa Horne, whom we have worked very closely with over the last two terms of government,” he said.
The VTA also welcomed the appointment of Danny Pearson to the Transport Infrastructure portfolio, which carries with it responsibility for delivery of key road and rail infrastructure that will boost productivity and efficiency for freight operators, as well as Steve Dimopoulos taking on the role of Environment Minister.
“The VTA looks forward to continuing our positive and constructive working relationship with the new Allan Labor Government, and we wish the Premier every success in her new role,” Anderson added.
Anderson also offered the Association’s thanks and gratitude to former premier Daniel Andrews on his nine years of leadership during unprecedented times.
“Daniel Andrews was a very active and engaged premier when it comes to transport and logistics policies and was always supportive of VTA and industry initiatives to attract new people to the industry,” Anderson said.
“Under his leadership, the VTA was instrumental in training hundreds of new people – including women, indigenous Australians, and other minority groups – for professional and well-paid transport roles.
“We wish him and his family every success in the next phase of their personal and professional lives.”
