Delays for truckies during week-long closure of Golden Highway

Truckies are advised of the temporary overnight closure of the Golden Highway near Whittingham, NSW, next week as workers complete the building of a new roundabout.

This new roundabout connects traffic from the Golden Highway to the New England Highway and new flyover bridge.

The Golden Highway will be closed between the New England Highway and Range Road to complete this work from 7pm to 6am from Monday, October 23 to Friday, October 27, weather permitting.

All traffic will be detoured via Range Road and the New England Highway.

The detour is expected to add up to 10 minutes of extra travel time so truckies are advised to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, drive to the conditions and follow the directions of signs and traffic control, said Transport for NSW (TfNSW).

TfNSW is upgrading the New England Highway between Belford and the Golden Highway to provide two travel lanes in each direction and a flyover for vehicles turning right from the Golden Highway towards Maitland and Newcastle.

Truckeis are also promised a package of upgrades on the Golden Highway between Whittingham and Dubbo, to “improve safety, traffic efficiency, network reliability and freight access”.

“The upgrade will improve safety, travel times and reliability for more than 25,000 motorists who travel along the New England Highway each day,” said NSW Regional Roads and Transport Minister Jenny Aitchison.

“Road users will soon be able to travel along the new flyover bridge as well as the new eastbound carriageway, which opened to traffic earlier this year.”

The Whittingham rest area adjacent to the New England Highway and Golden Highway intersection was permanently closed in February 2020 as part of the early work for the upgrade.
