Gore Highway is still closed and a new warning has been issued for operators using the Carnarvon Highway as blazes intensify in southern Queensland.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads advised industry today that there is a large scale bushfire burning through the areas of Carnarvon Gorge, Bandana State Forest, Consuela Tableland, Mount Hetty, Mount Moffat, McLeay State Forest, Westgrove, Injune and surrounding areas.
“Conditions are expected to worsen over the coming days and there is potential for the fire to impact on the Carnarvon Highway (24E), between Injune and Rolleston. There is also a significant risk of smoke hazard and reduced visibility in the coming days,” said the TMR’s heavy vehicles unit.
“It is advised to delay your trip if travelling these areas or choose an alternative. If not possible, choose your route carefully and check road conditions, noting these can change suddenly.”
According to qldtraffic.qld.gov.au, Gore Highway remains closed on Tuesday (October 24) in both directions due to fire and is expected to remain that way for some time.
Truckies are advised to avoid the area.
