Heavy vehicle compliance camera relocated to new site

A Safe-T-Cam heavy vehicle compliance camera on the Hume Highway has been moved to a new location and will be operational from today, November 1.

The Transport for NSW Safe-T-Cam at Bargo has been relocated to Douglas Park South overpass (southbound) and Pheasants Nest (northbound), which is 5km away from the previous location.

The Safe-T-Cam network is a network of digital cameras that monitor the movement of heavy vehicles. The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) says they detect and provide data on heavy vehicle incidents relating to:

  • vehicles that are unregistered and/or uninsured
  • fatigue offences relating to travel between two or more cameras
  • attempts to avoid detection at camera sites
  • failures to enter inspection stations.

According to NHVR director Central Region Brett Patterson, the cameras are a way to monitor the movement of heavy vehicles to ensure they comply with registration requirements and their work and rest obligations.

“The new location of the Safe T-Cam at Douglas Park South overpass (southbound) and Pheasants Nest (northbound) will have fixed signage installed to alert heavy vehicle drivers of the camera at both locations, to ensure safety across the industry,” Patterson said.
