Man charged after Mobil servo fire at Coolac

NSW Police have charged a man following an investigation into a fire which destroyed a service station near Gundagai in September.

About 10pm on September 5, 2023, emergency services were called to the servo on Coolac Road in Coolac, just off the Hume Highway in the state’s south.

Fire & Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze, which caused extensive damage to the property. There were no reports of injuries.

Officers attached to Riverina Police District established a crime scene and commenced inquiries before State Crime Command’s Financial Crimes Squad Arson Unit took carriage of the investigation under Strike Force Dosed.

Following inquiries by Strike Force detectives, a 42-year-old man was arrested at Narellan Police Station yesterday (December 6).

He was charged with destroy or damage property by fire.

The man was refused bail and appeared at Picton Local Court yesterday where bail was formally refused. He will appear before Cootamundra Local Court on Monday, December 18, 2023.

Investigations under Strike Force Dosed continue.

Mobil was also approached for comment.
