Truck driver killed at level crossing in Geelong

A truck driver has been killed following a collision with a regional passenger train in Geelong yesterday.

Victoria Police say it is understood that the truck got stuck on a level crossing at Station Street, just after midday.

The driver, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.

The 25 passengers from the V/Line train were evacuated with no one else reported injured.

The circumstances surrounding the crash are yet to be determined at this stage.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau was gathering further information about the incident on Monday afternoon.

There have been 277 lives lost on Victorian roads in 2023, almost 20 per cent more than during the same period last year.
