Scammers posing as NHVR target truckies

The NHVR has warned truckies to be wary of scam callers posing as the regulators.

The fraudsters are targeting heavy vehicle drivers and may tell them they have outstanding fines in an attempt to gain personal information such as their driver’s licence number, address or credit card details.

The NHVR has warned truckies to be aware that these calls are not coming from them.

“The NHVR does not collect financial information over the phone,” the organisation said in a statement.

“We ask drivers to please treat unexpected calls or requests for sensitive information with suspicion.”

If you receive one of these scam calls, you are encouraged to report it to Scamwatch here.

You can also make an official report to the police online.

If you’ve had your personal or financial information stolen, you should contact your bank or credit card provider immediately and tell them to stop any transactions.

If you’re at risk of identity misuse or need support to recover from a scam, reach out to IDCARE and they will connect you to one of their Identity & Cyber Security Case Managers.
