When Big Rigs saw Jason Duck, 49, he was filling up the Fuso Fighter at the busy Epping Forest Roadhouse beside the Midlands Highway.
Scores of other trucks stopped there that morning.
“I like Epping Forest because it is simple and easy to fill up with a fuel card,” he said.
Duck is based at Legana and works for the family business DLM Transport.
“That stands for the first names of the owners which are David, Lachlan and Mitchell,” he explained.
Duck was heading to Hobart with some plasterboard, where he would change over trucks.
“I am a fill-in driver and enjoy what I do,” he said.
Between Launceston and Epping Forest along the Midlands Highway, there was a lot of fog early that morning.
I asked Duck if that worried drivers. “It can but has been pretty mild today,” he said.
Outside work, Duck drives little steam engines for recreation and loves it. He is also a passionate dirt bike rider.
Duck grew up in NSW, around Wauchope, and has been in Tassie for the past 13 years.
“I just love living in Tasmania,” he said.
