Roadhouses affected by widespread power outages in Victoria

Power outages across Victoria today have affected some roadhouses and servos, including the popular Avenel Roadhouse.

There is also no power to the Caltex pumps at the location.

A staff member at the roadhouse said: “Due to the unexpected power outage we remain closed as far as we get the power back.

“We will keep everyone posted as soon as we open. Please find alternative options for food and coffees.”

BP Little River (Geelong Bound) was also affected by power outages last night.

Manager Veeru told Big Rigs: “We lost power at about midnight last night, but are now back and running.”

Shell Euroa would not confirm whether they had been affected.

Big Rigs has contacted BP and Viva Energy for updates on any service stations that may still be affected by power outages.

Hundreds of thousands of people were left without electricity in Victoria this morning after storms caused the collapse of six transmission towers near Anakie, between Geelong and Bacchus Marsh, and tripped an entire power station in Gippsland.

In a statement issued this morning, AEMO said it could take “days if not weeks” to restore electricity to all of those impacted.

“Approximately 285,500 homes and businesses are still without power in Victoria due to storm damage across the state, down from a peak of 530,000,” a spokesperson said.

“Vegetation clearing and repairs to damaged powerlines and poles continue. However, given the extent of the widespread damage, it may take days if not weeks to restore electricity to all of those impacted.

“Emergency crews continue to endure challenging conditions to access and repair damaged powerlines and critical energy infrastructure.”
