Another giant transformer can be seen crawling north along the Hume Highway and M1 Pacific Motorway this week on its way to Colongra on the NSW Central Coast.
It’s the second 477-tonne large power transformer to be transported in recent weeks to the Waratah Super Battery facility. Dandenong-based transport company Overdimensional Lift & Shift successfully delivered a similar load to the site on February 5.
In a media release last night, Transport for NSW (TfNSW) advised that the slow-moving follow-up will be travelling the Hume Highway between Albury and Sydney and on the M1 Pacific Motorway between Sydney and Colongra on the Central Coast until Monday, March 11.
The OSOM load kicked off the 650km journey with an overnight leg Albury to Gundagai on Wednesday night.
Here’s where and when you can catch the rest of the spectacle:
- Thursday, March 7 – From Gundagai to Goulburn, along the Hume Highway, between 10pm and 4.30am (Friday). All southbound traffic will be held for 15 minutes at approximately 3am as the OSOM load crosses the Murrumbidgee River.
- Friday, March 8 – From Goulburn to Campbelltown along the Hume Highway between 10pm and 5am (Saturday).
- Saturday, March 9 – From Campbelltown to Mooney Mooney along the Hume Motorway/M7/M2/M1 between 11pm and 4.30am (Sunday).
- Monday, March 11 – From Mooney Mooney to Colongra along the M1 Pacific Motorway between 12am and 4.30am.
Due to its size and scale – 5.8 metres wide and 125 metres long – the OSOM load will be travelling at significantly reduced speeds, the TfNSW release addded.
“While there will be opportunities to pass the load under supervision, motorists will experience delays. Please plan your journey in advance and allow extra travel time.”
“Motorists are urged to slow down and exercise caution when approaching or passing the OSOM load, which will be travelling under escort.”
