Eyre Highway reopens following flooding

The 709km stretch of the Eyre Highway between Norseman and Eucla has now reopened, after heavy rainfall and flooding wreaked havoc on parts of WA’s road network.

The stretch of road, which is the main freight route from the east into WA, was forced to close earlier in the week due to flooding.

Though the road has reopened, emergency services are advising drivers to exercise extreme caution and drive to the conditions, as there may still be water over the road.

The Goldfields Highway between Rosslyn Mine Hill and Meekatharra remains closed to heavy vehicles. It is currently only open for light vehicles and four-wheel-drives, with drivers asked to exercise extreme caution.

Leonora Laverton Road remains closed in both directions between Laverton and Leonora.

While further north, Ripon Hills Road between Marble Bar Road and the Telfer Turn Off are closed and are expected to remain closed for an extended period.

Marble Bar Rd between Nullagine and Marble Bar is also closed, with repairs currently being carried out.

At Marble Bar Rd between Abydos and Marble Bar, the road is only open to trucks and high clearance 4WDs only. Drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution due to water on roads and possible debris.

Closures are also in place at the Great Northern Hwy between Yurabi Rd, Fitzroy Crossing and Bridge St, Halls Creek. This closure is likely to remain in place for several days.

Gibb River Rd also remains closed in both directions between Lennard River and Great Northern Hwy (East Kimberley).
