Flooding and crashes cause ‘mayhem’ in Victoria

Flooding and collisions across parts of Victoria have led to “mayhem” in Melbourne this morning.

Two southbound lanes are currently blocked on the South Gippsland Highway, Dandenong South at Waterview Close. Victoria Police are attending.

The road is also closed between Dynon Road and Arden Street due to flooding. Drivers have been asked to avoid the area and use Dryburgh Street and Dynon Road instead.

Floodwater has also forced the closure of two lanes outbound at the West Gate Freeway.

Only one lane can get past, and the entry ramp to enter the West Gate Freeway citybound is also blocked.

Drivers have been told to continue on Montague Street and use City Road and Power Street to reach the West Gate Freeway.

Multiple collisions have added to the traffic chaos, with the road closed in both directions on the Princes Highway at Kalimna from Lookout Road to Martine Parade due to a serious collision near Jemmy’s Lookout.

Through traffic between Nowa Nowa and Bairnsdale should consider detouring via Bruthen.

On the Maroondah Highway at Croydon North, three lanes are closed outbound at Croydon Road due to a collision. Only the left lane remains open.

VicTraffic has warned motorists to drive with caution and watch out for people walking on the roadway.

Meanwhile two lanes are closed on the Greensborough-bound exit from the M80 Ring Road to the Greensborough Bypass, due to a truck breakdown. One lane remains open for traffic making left or rights turns.
