Truckies will be pleased to hear that Transport for NSW has carried out repair works near Maclean after one driver told Big Rigs of his concerns over “sinking” bridges in the area.
Keith Hawken recently pointed out issues with a bridge at Ferry Park on the Pacific Motorway, which were resulting in a bumpy and potentially dangerous crossing for truckies.
Another bridge on the same motorway was also showing signs of damage, with visibly cracked abutments.
Big Rigs contacted Transport for NSW about the matter earlier this month, and were informed that they were “aware of the issues related to bridges south of Maclean”.
A spokesperson said: “Motorists are assured the bridges themselves are not sinking; rather, the embankment approaches to the bridges are built over soft foundations and are known to be susceptible to settlement.”
They added that they were investigating required maintenance work to correct the settlement.
Big Rigs has since followed up with Transport for NSW and has been informed that the maintenance work was completed last week.
“Transport for NSW has carried out asphalt works to help smooth the approach and departure at the northbound and southbound bridge immediately south of the Maclean interchange,” a spokesperson said.
“Further asphalt work to remove dips in the road pavement has been carried out at three other locations between the Maclean interchange and the Yamba exit.”
