The organisers of the first ever Mullewa Truck Muster have declared it a success, with 27 trucks of all makes and models registered.
The show took place as part of the Mullewa Muster and Rodeo in the Mid West region of Western Australia over the weekend.
Organising committee member Tahni Doble told Big Rigs that although there were a few drop-outs from registered trucks on the day, she was very pleased with attendance and feedback from truckies.
“It was awesome to see the number of trucks we had, and the diversity of them as well,” she said.
“For our first show, we can’t complain at all – everyone had a great time.”
Doble said that she and others on the committee have been toying with the idea of organising a truck muster in Mullewa for years.
As the Mullewa Muster and Rodeo celebrated its tenth anniversary this year, they thought it was the perfect opportunity to incorporate a new element.
“We haven’t had anything in this area for truckies since the year 2000, when we did a convoy for kids,” Doble continued.
“We wanted to do something for the Mid West trucking community, to bring everyone together and showcase the trucks we have on offer.
“Truckies were definitely excited to have a reason to get the trucks out of the shed, and get the polish out!”
Prizes were handed out across 10 categories, with a Western Star previously owned by transport operator CJ Swift standing out to Doble as a particularly deserving winner.
“Unfortunately, CJ Swift passed away a few years ago,” she said.
“His kids got the truck out of the shed, washed it and polished it up and it won the People’s Choice award, which was really great.”
Doble hopes to bring the truck show back every year from now on.
“The support and positive feedback we have received has been great, and we already have sponsors wanting to lock in for next year’s event!” she said.
