The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator has shared some advice for truckies working over the cane harvest season.
The regulator has advised operators/drivers to check cane bins for damage, and when loading, make sure billets are not higher than 300mm below the top of the bin/trailer.
You must also “ensure there are no billets resting on the truck or trailer chassis before commencing your journey”.
In addition, the NHVR recommends checking that all vehicles and equipment have been serviced before use, driving to the condition of the road, and reporting any hazards you come across.
“Cane harvest is upon us – so let’s work together to make sure everyone makes it through the season safely,” an update from the regulator reads.
“Produce falling from heavy vehicles is a safety risk, let’s keep the billets in the bin during transport.”
