Permanent closure of U-turn bay for truckies at Hexham

Freight operators are advised of changed traffic conditions from Sunday, as work progresses on the Hexham Straight Widening project near Newcastle, NSW.

Work will involve the permanent closure of the U-turn bay, 200 metres south of Hexham Station at Hexham.

To minimise impact to motorists, work to facilitate the closure will be carried out from 7pm Sunday, July 7 to 5am Monday July 8, weather permitting.

Heavy vehicles, including operators of oversize and overmass (OSOM) vehicles, will no longer be able to use this U-turn bay. An alternative route can be seen in the picture above.

Operators of OSOM vehicles that are required to contra-flow under police escort at the Northbound Hexham Bridge will be able to perform turning manoeuvres at the alternative route.

A temporary speed of 60km/h will remain in place through the project work zone during ongoing day work, and a reduction to 40km/h during night work.
