Replacement of two Kimberley region bridges now complete

Construction of the replacement bridges at Tickalara Creek and Frog Hollow Creek in the Kimberley Region of Western Australia is now complete.

Tie-in works are now underway to connect the new structures with the highway, before the new alignment is opened to traffic later this year.

Main Roads WA says the new bridges will improve safety, with two lanes instead of one, and create more efficient journeys through less stop/start movements crossing the creeks.

It also says that flood impacts will be lessened, through design specifications ensuring the new bridges are resistant to a 100-year flood event.

“The community is already experiencing benefits from the works so far, including the creation of local jobs and procurement of local businesses,” an update said.

The two Aboriginal communities located near Tickalara Creek and Frog Hollow Creek were kept “closely informed” of progress throughout construction.

A third bridge replacement at Arthur Creek is expected to commence in early 2025 and be completed by the end of the year.

Further consultation with Traditional Owners is required, which is being undertaken this year.
