Sealing works to begin on Northern Territory livestock route

Over 5 kilometres of this stretch of road will be sealed as part of a $7.6 million project.

Funded by the Northern Territory Government, the project will bring this section of Fleming Road up to “sealed road standards”.

“Fleming Road is a key access road for the cattle industry in the Douglas Daly region who use the road to transport livestock to Darwin Port and interstate,” said Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics Joel Bowden.

“Sealing our roads will improve connectivity, reduce travel time and provide better protection from flooding.”

The works, being undertaken by local business Allan King & Sons Construction, will include excavation, construction of drainage and culverts as well as rectification of shoulders and sealing of pavements.

The upgrades are due to begin next month in August 2024 and be completed by July 2025.

Member for Daly Dheran Young added: “This latest project for Fleming Road follows upgrades completed in 2022 which saw the first 3km of the road upgraded to sealed road standards.

“Territory roads are vital in connecting our local communities and these latest works on this key road in the Douglas Daly region will ensure better access and safety for vehicles travelling this route.”

  1. Are you serious? 7.6 million for only five kilometers? That is an absolute disgrace. You would barely even nod off on five k of the only smooth road on this important route! So typical of all our nations inland roads. They are beautiful on the east coast!
