A NSW truck driver was lucky to escape serious injury on Tuesday afternoon when a load of timber he was transporting crashed through the rear of his cab, piercing the windscreen.
The incident happened when the truckie, who was travelling west on the Great Western Highway at Wentworth Falls, applied the brakes to stop at a set of traffic lights.
The driver had loaded timber onto the truck before starting his journey but it had become loose, allowing the unsecured load to move forward at speed.
It penetrated the windscreen, smashing the glass but thankfully missing the driver.
Details of the incident were shared by Blue Mountains Police, who said: “Regardless of the size of your vehicle or the nature of the load that you may carry, drivers are reminded of their responsibility in ensuring that the load is secure and safe, not just for the driver, but for other road users.”
Police are investigating the incident. An Infringement Notice with a $544 penalty and loss of points can be issued to a driver of a vehicle with an unsecured load.
